The 24-Style Simplified Tai Ji Quan Form was created in the late 1950s from the Yang-style Tai Ji Quan. Yang-style is one of many styles of Tai Ji Quan, and is considered the most popular. Other styles include Chen, Wu, and Sun. Tai Ji Quan experts and the national organization formulated the 24-Style Simplified Tai Ji Quan Form by combining 20+ forms of classical representations with those belonging to the Yang-style.
The simplified forms of Tai Ji Quan were formulated after the establishment of the People's Republic of China. To raise people’s health standard, the government began promoting and supporting a Tai Ji Quan movement that would help strengthen the body, prevent diseases, and prolong life. The National Physical Culture and Sports Commission of the People's Republic of China began to arrange and edit a form in 1957. They based it on Yang style Tai Ji Quan in order for it be both easy to learn and practice. In the end, they created the 24 Style Tai Ji Quan, 32 Style Tai Ji sword, and 88 Style Tai Ji Quan. Tai Ji Quan Grandmaster Li Jingwu was one of the Tai Ji Quan experts whom participated in the creation and editing process. Also, he was the one to demonstrate the form in a documentary about Tai Ji Quan that was used to spread it throughout China. Tai Ji Quan Master and TCM physician Feng Yijian is Li Jingwu's disciple.
