What is Inner Nourishing Qigong?
Nei Yang Gong Qigong

Qigong has been practiced for thousands of years in China as an effective, accessible, and cost-effective means to maintain health. It is a practice that combines the mind/spirit, breath, and body. With an emphasis on mindfulness, qigong promotes the flow of qi (or life energy) through the meridians (or energy channels) of the body, and thereby, ensures health and well-being.

Inner Nourishing Qigong

Inner Nourishing Qigong, or Nei Yang Gong Qigong, is a medical qigong and time-honored mindful practice that spans 450 years (Ming/Qing Dynasty). Similar to the history of other qigong forms, originally Inner Nourishing Qigong was solely static/quiescent, but it later branched out into dynamic/movement in the late 20th century. The static forms are similar to meditation in which there is no physical movement, and is performed in the sitting, lying, or standing position. Motional forms are embodied in self-massage and the 2 sets of forms. The first set of forms "transforms the muscles and tendons and mobilizes qi." The second form "regulate the qi and prolongs life." Both the static and dynamic forms are intertwined in a combination of mind, body, and breath.

Today the legacy of Inner Nourishing Qigong is continued at the National Hebei Qigong Hospital in Beidaihe, Hebei, China. It is the ONLY state-approved medical qigong hospital. Due to the efforts of Dr. Liu Guizhen, the hospital was established in 1956. He was the 6th generation successor of Inner Nourishing Qigong. Throughout his life, he strove to teach and popularize qigong because he experienced on a first-hand basis the beneficial effects of qigong. He had a history of tuberculosis, insomnia, and stomach ulcers that almost cost him his life. By studying Inner Nourishing Qigong under his uncle, who was the 5th generation successor of Inner Nourishing Qigong, he was able to recuperate and regain his health. Besides establishing the hospital, he is credited with popularizing modern medical qigong and coining the word "qigong." His legacy is continued through his daughter, Dr. Liu Ya Fei. She is the 7th generation successor of Inner Nourishing Qigong, Master of Inner Nourishing Qigong, and retired Vice-Director of the National Hebei Qigong Hospital. Dr. Liu Ya Fei and her father are credited with incorporating the movement to form the first set of 12 forms, "Transform muscles and tendons and mobilize qi." She has built on her father's work to expand Inner Nourishing Qigong beyond the Chinese borders on an international level to such countries as France, Germany, Japan, USA, etc. Also, she has formulated the 2nd set of 12 forms,"regulate the qi and prolong life"
